Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Marquise Brown showed plenty of flashes of promise during his rookie year. Unfortunately, he still struggled to fit the billing that comes with being a former first-round pick.

Brown started the year by having to recover from surgery to repair an injured foot. According to ESPN's Jamison Hensley, he was never quite able to get himself back to 100 percent.

“Marquise was really not 100 percent most of the year, and that was pretty obvious, right?,” coach John Harbaugh said. “He’s a huge piece of what we’re doing and fits this offense so well.”

The fact that Brown was able to show off his talent while playing through injury is certainly an encouraging. sign. Although he may be coming off an underwhelming rookie year, it is clear that expectations still remain as high as ever for him in Baltimore.

Brown burst onto the scene in the season opener with four receptions, 147 receiving yards, and two touchdowns, however, it would ultimately set the precedent for him as a boom-or-bust player the rest of the season. As a result, he wound up finishing the 2019 campaign with 46 receptions for 584 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Ravens know full well about the expectations that come with being taken with the 25th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Regardless, it seems they are still leased with what a hobbled Brown managed to do as a rookie. It is safe to say that they are expecting him to take that next step in the 2020 NFL season now that he is working his way back to full health.
