The Boston Red Sox have been hot and cold to start the 2022 season. Their offense has been mostly what has carried the club, as the pitching has struggled. On Wednesday, the Red Sox had a development that is far from ideal for their offense.

Boston slugger J.D. Martinez was forced to leave the game with an injury.

Martinez hit a double in the third inning. However, as he pulled up to second base, he winced in pain. He would leave the game. The Red Sox would later rule that he would not return and that the Boston slugger left the game with left adductor tightness.

That's likely a relative sigh of relief, as it first appeared it could be a hamstring injury. Boston will probably update Martinez's status later Wednesday night or Thursday.

Christian Arroyo replaced Martinez as a pinch runner. Prior to leaving, the Red Sox DH was 2-for-2 with a single and a double.

The Blue Jays offense came to life in this game, as they lead Boston 6-1 in the seventh inning. Once again, Boston's pitching woes continued.
