Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper is set to test the market as a free agent this offseason. It appears the Washington Redskins are among the teams interesting in landing his services.

According to ESPN's Vaughn McClure, Washington has expressed serious interest in Hooper:

The Redskins are one of the teams that have a strong interest in tight end Austin Hooper, a source tells me. Falcons letting Hooper reach free agency.

The interest in Hooper is hardly surprising considering he has established himself as one of the most promising young tight ends in the NFL. He was able to solidify this notion in the 2019 NFL season by registering 75 receptions for 787 yards and six touchdowns en route to his second Pro Bowl.

Hooper would provide a major boost to Washington's receiving corps as a potential safety net for quarterback Dwayne Haskins in the passing game. With tight end Jordan Reed likely to become a cap casualty this offseason, securing a two-time Pro Bowler would certainly make for a viable replacement.

Of course, Washington is not the only team that is looking to make a splash by signing Hooper. Both the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are also expected to pursue him in free agency if the Falcons allow it to get to that point. As a result, these teams can expect some stiff competition from one another if they hope to land a playmaker of his caliber.

Regardless, it is safe to assume that the bids for Hooper should land him a rather lucrative contract.
