In the days leading up to Week 5 action against the New Orleans Saints, former All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson has been hammered by an ankle injury that has continued to linger.

According to Joh Keim of ESPN, this has continued to prevent Peterson from taking part of practice in the first few days of practice this week.

There has yet to be any talk this injury will push Peterson to miss Monday's game, but rather that it's something that has been monitored by Redskins over the next few days that should give clarity on his status. He has the chance to get a practice or two in prior to the game that would put him on track to play despite the injury. This could at the very least put an injury designation on him for the contest given that it is has lingered for over the last week.

Peterson did state that the Week 4 bye did come to his benefit to help provide more time for him to rest and get his ankle in a better position to allow him to take the field. He has been a huge factor out of the backfield for the Redskins this season through the first three games played with 236 rushing yards and three touchdowns along with five catches for 100 receiving yards. This includes coming off a season-high 120 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the 31-17 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. He is currently projected to record 1,259 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns at the pace that he has begun the 2018 campaign.

If he's unable to give it a go, it should see Chris Thompson pick up a more significant role in the backfield as he has notched just 83 rushing yards on 15 attempts along with hauling in 20 receptions on 23 targets for 155 receiving yards and one touchdown.
