Monday morning, many Washington Redskins fans woke up delighted to news they had been hoping to hear for a while after head coach Jay Gruden was fired after six seasons.

It almost seemed inevitable as it seemed no one was happy in that relationship, not Gruden, not the players, and certainly not the front office, according to NFL reporter Albert Breer.

Bill Callahan will take over the reins in Washington as he tries to figure out the team's starting quarterback situation. Not only could Gruden not figure it out, but it seems that he made a mess of it.

Colt McCoy made his first start of the season, and it wasn't pretty. Albeit it was against the league's best defense in the New England Patriots. At the moment, McCoy might be the team's best option unless they want to give Case Keenum another shot at it.

What Callahan must avoid doing is throwing Dwayne Haskins back under center. The rookie did not look ready when he replaced Keenum in Week 4 against the New York Giants. He was in a bad situation, though. A rookie should be given notice before the middle of the game that he's going to make his debut.

Washington will head to Miami for Week 6 as they look to get their first victory against a fellow winless team. Callahan will have time to think about who he feels is the right fit under center but can't afford to damage the confidence of who many think is the future of the franchise.
