It looks like the Washington Redskins will be getting some extra quarterback help in practice this week. Veteran Colt McCoy is nearing a return and according to Charean Williams of ProFootballTalk.com, is expected to return to practice this week.

The Redskins need quarterback help. It's pretty obvious after the Monday Night Football game in Week 3. Case Keenum struggled mightily and it appears Washington straight up doesn't want to play Dwayne Haskins yet.

So McCoy returning is good news, but also confusing news. It's confusing because McCoy isn't ready to play in a game yet, and it might be a while before he is.

McCoy could be returning to practice, but that doesn't mean he'll be playing in a game soon. The quarterback appears to still be pretty far off from game action, and will be evaluated while practicing.

That means it could be even longer before he sees the field in an NFL game.

For now though, this is a positive story when the Redskins are absolutely desperate for positive stories.

McCoy getting closer to a return gives them something to talk about. It's a narrative they can control. An injured player working his way back to help the team. It's a lot better story than their 0-3 record, or the Trent Williams hold out, or all the injuries or whatever terrible thing you want to discuss.

Washington needs things to start going right sooner rather than later. Getting back a veteran back up quarterback isn't exactly the story to end all stories.

However, it's a positive and the Redskins need to grab onto it tight and can't let go.
