It's safe for even the most casual football fan to assume that the Washington Redskins don't plan on making a run for the playoffs. Luckily, there is a positive in that: it allows them to give young players much-needed snaps.

One of the players the Redskins will look to play in the stretch-run running back is Derrius Guice. The young running back couldn't be more excited about the possibility of playing NFL football after missing his rookie year (torn ACL), then going on injured reserve early into his second with a meniscus injury.

Interim head coach Bill Callahan revealed, via Redskins Wire's Zachary Neel, that the second-round selection of the 2018 Draft is looking forward to his chance to play more snaps. The head coach used the word “itching” to describe the eagerness of the young running back to get on the field.

The LSU product was activated earlier this week after the team was mathematically kicked out of the playoff. Guice was a standout running back during his three-year stint with the Tigers. In his final year with LSU, he recorded 237 rushing attempts for 1,251 yards and 11 touchdowns. He hauled in 124 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver in his final year.

However, the question lies on whether he'll be given the start over an established star like Adrian Peterson. The seasoned running back has performed well for the Redskins this season, notching 491 yards in eight starts thus far.

The team is already looking to next season after deciding to start Dwayne Haskins for the remainder of the season. Having Guice experience more football alongside Haskins should do well for Washington's rebuild.
