Free agent left tackle Donald Penn reportedly wants to return to the Washington Redskins. According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, Penn isn't planning to retire and wants to play next season.

The Redskins signed Penn last season in the middle of training camp because of Trent Williams' holdout. Williams still hasn't been traded yet. However, it's very likely it will happen before the 2020 season begins.

With that being said, the Redskins will have a major hole at that position. The only left tackle the Redskins currently have under contract is Geron Christian.

Considering his age, Penn had a phenomenal season at left tackle last season. The 36-year-old started in almost every game and did a terrific job protecting quarterbacks Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins. In addition, he played 94.3% of the snaps on offense last season.

Although signing Penn for another season will be a nice addition to the Redskins offensive line, there's a possibility they might not. The Redskins currently have the No. 2 pick in the draft this year and could potentially trade down to acquire more picks for an offensive tackle. Additionally, they could sign a different veteran left tackle this offseason. Signing a player like Jacksonville Jaguars LT Cedric Ogbueh would provide a bigger boost to their offensive line.

Nevertheless, the Redskins had a disappointing 2019 campaign in the NFL season, finishing their run with an overall record of 3-13. However, the organization is seeking to turn things around after hiring new head coach Ron Rivera and new defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.
