The Washington Redskins appear to be headed toward a name change, which means they’ll likely sport slightly altered uniforms in 2020. In the event that Washington does change their team name, the franchise’s uniforms could look different for the 2020 season.

It seems like an inevitability that Washington will undergo a name change in the near future. For the first time in franchise history, it appears to be a matter of when — not if — the name changes. FedEx, the company that sponsors Washington’s stadium has urged the team to amend its name.

Of course, with the 2020 season right around the corner, the sooner the organization decides on a new name, the sooner the uniforms can be created. While some teams have overhauled their logos and colors, Washington would likely maintain their colors.

However, the new logo — depending on the new team name — would replace the current logo on the helmet. At the same time, the new non-controversial team name would be located on the neck area of the jersey.

As Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk points out, seeing that Nike is the company in charge of uniforms in the NFL, they could push for a complete rebrand for Washington. With that being said, it is unclear if Dan Snyder would be interested in doing that.

Fans in the nation’s capital are undecided on what the best team name would be moving forward. Regardless of what name is chosen, most Redskins’ fans are longing to see the franchise maintain the same color scheme that the current team has.

All in all, once Washington makes their final decision on a new team name, expect to see slightly modified uniforms in 2020.
