The Washington Redskins are one of just a couple of teams holding an open quarterback competition in camp, and head coach Jay Gruden isn't bothered by it.

Dwayne Haskins and Case Keenum are doing battle for the starting job, and veteran Colt McCoy is technically in the competition as well. Speaking to the media recently, Gruden made it clear he doesn't mind the uncertainty and said he's in no rush to name a starter, per Jordan Dajani of 247Sports.

“It might come down to the wire, it might come down to Saturday before the Philly game who knows?” said Gruden. “But I feel confident in every one of our quarterbacks, that they have a skillset that is beneficial to help this football team win games, at the end of the day it's our job to figure out which one, Week 1, gives us the best chance to defeat a division rival.”

Gruden wouldn't give any hints at who might have an edge currently, saying “it will be close, for sure, yeah,” when asked how the reps will be divided up in camp. The team doesn't want to rush the rookie Haskins, but Gruden is going to be coaching for his job in 2019, and his hand might get forced at some point.

Gruden also talked about Alex Smith, who will be stopping by the facility frequently as he continues to recover from last year's devastating leg injury.

“Our job is to do everything we can to get him right and his job is to come in here and help in any capacity he feels fit to do so,” Gruden said. “So if it's in a meeting and helping out our young quarterbacks — he's got Case Keenum who has never been in this system, Colt's been here for a while but he hasn't had many starting games and obviously Dwayne is a rookie, so I think having his influence and his leadership in that quarterback room will be beneficial, but the most important thing for me and for this organization is for Alex to get well.”
