It takes a lot for a player to come back after as gruesome of an injury like an ACL tear. Which is what Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice is tasked with after having his rookie season ended before it even began last season.

He finally got his chance to show his value with the first preseason action of his career against the Falcons. Guice ran the ball 11 times for 44 yards and looked to be in great form. He was in such great form in fact that head coach Jay Gruden praised his performance.

“It was important to get him the ball. Wanted to give him quite a few touches. Get him some rhythm, a sweat. Get used to hitting the ground, getting hit, tackled, protecting the football…I think it was a productive night for him. Looked like he was decisive with his cuts for the most part, ran with some power at times, moved the pile when there wasn't anything there. I was impressed.”

Guice was excited to be back out there. Showing no signs of rust after missing all of last season and putting together a strong performance for the Redskins.

“It's been a long time, bro. I knew it was something I needed. I needed to get out there, get my feet under me, get some contact to really see where I'm at.”

Guice will be sharing the load with veteran back Adrian Peterson and receiving back Chris Thompson this season. He has a lot of expectations for himself going into his second year in the league and with performances like this, he could very well meet them.
