Jay Gruden and the Washington Redskins finished the 2018 season in disappointing fashion. Both Alex Smith and Colt McCoy went down with broken legs and once that happened the season was pretty much over. Now, the Redskins will have to focus on retaining wide receiver Jamison Crowder, who will hit free agency this offseason.

In an interview shared by ESPN, Gruden stressed the importance of the Redskins bringing Crowder back.

“He's got great quickness in intermediate routes, can separate, has good hands, he's tough, he's physical in the running game. There is really not anything that Jamison can't do. You look at his size and say he's little, but he plays big, so we have to try and get him back for sure.”

Crowder has become the Redskins' No. 1 receiver over the past couple of seasons. On a roster that boasts a lot of talent at the wide receiver position, there is also a lot of disappointment. That talent has failed to live up to what many thought it would become.

During the 2018 season with the Redskins, Crowder did deal with some injury issues. He ended up playing in just nine games, catching 29 passes for 388 yards and two touchdowns.

Last season in Washington, Crowder had a much bigger year. He caught 66 passes for 789 yards and three touchdowns.

Washington could use some more help at the position even if they do re-sign Crowder, but he is a perfect possession receiver. If he could simply focus on being the “slot guy,” he would be much more dangerous.

All of that being said, expect to see the Redskins do everything they can to bring Crowder back to Washington on a new contract.
