The Washington Football Team received scathing criticism for their lack of creativity in going with a temporary name change. It seems even The Rock has made sure to get in on the jokes that have played out on social media.

Many are familiar with The Rock's track record as a former football player at the University of Miami and the hit HBO series “Ballers”, where he plays a financial manager for NFL players. He took to Twitter to offer up a suggestion that Washington goes with his show's namesake:

“Even though this name is clearly temporary, I appreciate the organization moving at an accelerated pace towards some progress prior to this NFL season,” Johnson tweeted. “For the love of the game – I vote, ‘WASHINGTON BALLERS.’ You’re welcoooome! *sang Maui style.”

While the name may seem generic, it is safe to say that many would consider it an upgrade over what team ownership ultimately decided. Jokes aside, Johnson is happy to offer up support for the name change.

This is not the only suggestion to surface that involves a reference to the big screen. A Reddit user recently revealed that the same company that manages the team’s official website has registered a new domain that reportedly features the name DCSentinels.com. This, of course, stems from the movie “The Replacements”, that starred Keanu Reeves as the team’s new quarterback.

Washington has had ample time time to come up with a contingency plan in the event that enough attention would be brought to the issue. As a result, they have received plenty of backlash for going with the bare minimum as far as team names go.
