The Washington Redskins name change has become an inevitability leading up to the 2020 NFL season. It seems the team has potentially taken steps toward establishing a new name.

The same company that manages the team’s official website recently registered a new domain. It reportedly features the name DCSentinels.com, via Brian Giuffra of The Big Lead:

Chad Ryan, who podcasts about the NFL team located in Washington, D.C., stumbled upon a Reddit user who had done some sleuthing and found news worth sharing. Apparently the same company that registered and manages the website Redskins.com recently registered a new domain name, DCSentinels.com. That doesn’t mean the new name of DC’s NFL team is the DC Sentinels, but if it is, one has to wonder if the XFL will sue them for stealing the team name of their squad in DC.

There have been a number of intriguing names floated around up to this point. The Redtails or Generals are among the popular choices that have made their rounds on social media throughout the process.

However, the prospect of transitioning into the Sentinels means a few elements have already been taken into consideration. The name stems from the movie “The Replacements”, which starred Keanu Reeves as the team’s new quarterback. Although they were also based in Washington, they may opt to go the same route a the XFL did by putting the DC in front of their name instead.

It will be interesting to see if the change to the Sentinels ultimately comes to fruition.
