The New York Giants made headlines with their decision not to re-sign safety Landon Collins. It appears he may ultimately wound up staying in the NFC East.

There is plenty of speculation regarding Collins' next landing spot. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Washington Redskins could be a potential frontrunner for his services, via 247 Sports:

“Landon Collins' name got really, really hot after the Giants did not put the franchise tag on him,” said Rapoport. “Going to have a lot of interesting teams as well, including the Washington Redskins if they do not re-sign Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.”

This year's free agency market features a rather deep safety class. Collins is perhaps the most sought-after free agent at his position behind former Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas. There will certainly be no shortage of interest on them this offseason.

The fact that New York decided not to place the franchise tag on Collins has been one of the most surprising developments thus far in free agency. The Giants selected him in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He quickly proved to be one of its biggest steals after earning three straight trips to the Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors in 2016. H seemed destined for a lucrative payday. However, it seems the Giants have other plans.

The prospect of Collins landing in Washington is not too far-fetched. They are certainly in need of some safety help after their questionable decision to part ways with Pro Bowl safety D.J. Swearinger during the 2018 campaign. Signing with them would give Collins an opportunity to prove his worth to the Giants for years to come.
