Roblox really is trying to make their game “more than just a game.” In a way, their approach is similar to Fortnite‘s, as Roblox begins bringing digital events to their ‘metaverse'. For their first digital event, Roblox partners with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring Lin-Manuel Miranda's In the Heights to the digital world.

“The first-of-its-kind Launch Party on Roblox brings the music, dance, and Latin American culture of the film’s iconic Washington Heights neighborhood to the Roblox metaverse,” says a post from the game's official news blog. The game will have its first premiere on June 11, 6 PM PDT. At that time, visitors can check out the producers' virtual space. There, they can watch what they call the “largest virtual flash mob ever.” Prior to that, fans can tune in on June 10, 6 PM PDT for the “Lights Out Viewing Party where they can attend a Q&A with the cast.

It's a bit odd, though, that Warner Bros. Pictures chose the game to be its partner for this launch. While the reach of the game is massive, the young population of the game might not be the best audience for the musical. However for Lin-Manuel Miranda, famous for the musical Hamilton and creator and songwriter of the show, “Roblox fosters an amazing and diverse community on its platform. What better place to host a launch party, where anyone can experience what it’s like to dance in the streets of Washington Heights with the whole world by your side? I’m excited to see fans come together and share in the experience this way.”

We do hope that Miranda's outlook on the platform matches audiences' expectations, so we can get more virtual events like this in the future.
