The Houston Rockets are signing former first-overall pick Anthony Bennett to a non-guaranteed deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

In an earlier report by Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets are said to be planning to bring Bennett to training camp this fall.

Bennett has been out of the league since the 206-17 season after stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets. he was drafted first overall by the Cavs in 2013, but he never lived up to his potential as a top-five prospect in his draft class.

In his four years in the NBA, Bennett put up measly averages of 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He was also largely inefficient, shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from the 3-point arc.

His best season came with the Timberwolves, though he was still largely underwhelming with his 5.2 points and 3.8 boards per contest.

The 26-year-old power forward has mostly spent time in the G League, last playing for Agua Caliente Clippers. Bennett averaged 12.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 25 contests for the ACC, all while shooting 54.8 percent from the field, 42.2 percent from deep and 83.1 percent from the free throw line.

Bennett is considered one of the biggest busts in NBA Draft history, but he is only 26 years old and still has a chance to gain some respectability in the NBA. It remains to be seen though if he can do it with the Rockets.
