The Houston Rockets signed NBA journeyman Gerald Green to a one-year contract Thursday, and with the team scheduled to play the Boston Celtics on the same day, that meant Green will be inserted to the Rockets lineup right away with or without practice – or his own shoes.

According to Jared Weiss of USA TODAY Sports, Green just arrived in Boston for filial reasons when he found out that he has become a Rocket. With no sneakers on standby, Green had to ask new teammate Trevor Ariza to let him borrow an extra pair.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Green’s deal with the Rockets is non-guaranteed.

The Rockets have until the NBA's deadline of Jan. 7 to guarantee Green's contract for the season, or waive him. At that time, Houston could waive Green but still sign him back on a series of 10-day contracts.

Before inking a deal with the Rockets, Green played for the Celtics for 47 games last season. This is also the 31-year-old shooting guard’s second stint with the Rockets, having played for just one game in Houston way back in the 2007-08 campaign.

In 11 seasons in the NBA, Green has played for eight teams, compiling career averages of 5.6 points on 42.0 field goal shooting percentage, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game. Green’s best season came in 2013-14 season, when he put up 15.8 points per game for the Phoenix Suns.
