After signing with the San Antonio Spurs, their fans are wondering if Rudy Gay can return to his old self following the torn Achilles tendon he suffered last year.

Many professional athletes have not been the same after suffering the injuryHowever, Gay has the utmost confidence that he can bounce back from it, and he even has extra motivation to achieve it.

The 30-year-old admitted, via the San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald, that he is planning on having the best comeback ever next season as he tries to resurrect his career and prove that he still has a lot of game left in him.

“I'm going to have the best comeback ever. That's the motivation of it.”

“Physically, I'm my old self. I'm cleared to play. The only thing that can help me now is to play.”

Gay spent the past few years with the Sacramento Kings, but he was vocal about his unhappiness with the situation. He only appeared in 30 games for them last season before he suffered the injury.

Now with the Spurs, Gay will have a fresh start with one of the most successful teams in NBA history. He also has a chance to get back to in-game shape, as he is expected to be eased in slowly by head coach Gregg Popovich. Should he play close to the level he was at during the early days of his career, he could turn out to be an important signing for the Spurs, who are looking to avenge their sweep against the Golden State Warriors in the playoffs this past season.
