After being eliminated by Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semifinal round in dramatic fashion, Manchester City is now looking ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window and the possibility of signing a coveted Dutch international.

As noted by the Daily Mail, Manchester City has added Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong to its transfer wishlist.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is aiming to bolster his midfield depth with a player capable of “operating both in a reserved holding position and in a more advanced role.” The Premier League side could reignite its interest in pushing to sign the Dutch midfielder if Barca is propelled to sell him due to “financial constraints.”

This is not the first time that Manchester City has reportedly shown an intrigue in de Jong. Man City club officials inquired about signing him from Ajax three years ago, but he elected to join the Catalan side instead. More so, the club was linked with him ahead of this year’s winter transfer window.

Overall, de Jong has been in the transfer rumor mill for much of this season. Amid questions over his future several months ago, he noted to The Guardian that he aspires to stay put at Barca for “many more years.” On the other hand, Barca manager Xavi Hernandez did add last month that he is aiming to see the midfielder “continue” at the club.

The Dutch talent has four seasons remaining on his contract at Barca.
