It's been a very difficult season for the Buffalo Sabres. It started off poorly, as world-class center man Jack Eichel was unable to play for Buffalo due to a serious back injury. He later was forced to have artificial disc replacement surgery. There was a huge ordeal between what he wanted to do and the organization. Sadly, that ended with Eichel traded to Las Vegas to play for the Golden Knights.

The season did not get any better, as they struggled out of the gates. The Sabres have 33 points and are a long-shot to make the NHL playoffs.

On Tuesday, the Sabres hosted the Ottawa Senators, ultimately losing 5-0. Late in the first period, Sabres goalie Aaron Dell plays the puck behind the net and interferes with Senators' Drake Batherson. Batherson loses his balance and goes dangerously into the boards. Dell was called for a 2-minute interference penalty on the play.

On Wednesday, the NHL announced that Dell has been suspended for three games.

The injury left Batherson with a broken left ankle. The league took that into account when determining the length of the suspension for Dell.

Buffalo has been decimated by injuries at goaltender. Craig Anderson, Malcolm Subban, Dustin Tokarski and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen are all currently out with injuries. Sabres G Michael Houser is now currently the only healthy, active goalie on the team's roster.

That will force the Sabres to look for yet another goalie.

Meanwhile, Batherson will be out for an extended period of time for the Senators. His injury also costs him the chance at playing during the upcoming NHL All-Star Game in Las Vegas.
