New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara made history on Friday after tying the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns in a game. However, he did attempt to break the record after learning during the game that he had the chance to do so.

Kamara recorded six rushing touchdowns in their Christmas Day game, which matched the record set by Ernie Nevers of the Chicago Cardinals in 1929. According to ESPN, he first learned the record after asking the team's running backs coach Joel Thomas in the first half following his third TD.

“He came back to me and told me six, and I was like, ‘S—, let's go,'” Alvin Kamara said.

Moreover, the Saints running back also thought that he wouldn't be able to match or surpass the record when head coach Sean Payton denied him the opportunity to score late in the fourth quarter when they were on the 1-yard line. However, another chance presented itself when they got on the Vikings' 3-yard line before the two-minute warning.

Sure enough, Kamara didn't waste the opportunity and converted for the Saints to make it six touchdowns for him on the day.

“I was just like, ‘It's all good. I'm second, at least,'” Kamara said after he thought he'd stop at five touchdowns in the contest.

The Saints came out with a 52-33 victory over the Vikings, with quarterback Drew Brees also having a scintillating performance to help New Orleans claim the NFC South title for the fourth straight season. Brees threw for 311 yards as he also broke through the 80,000 passing yards mark.
