The New Orleans Saints fell just short in their Week 7 Thursday Night Football matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Dennis Allen has now explained why the Saints were lacking a bit of firepower in the run game.

New Orleans relied on Alvin Kamara heavily throughout the contest. While Kamara is an electric playmaker, neither Jamaal Williams nor Kendre Miller were given an opportunity to make much of an impact. Miller was limited due to shoulder irritation while the Saints kept Williams on a pitch count as he returns from injury, via team reporter Erin Summers.

While Allen held both runners back in Week 7, he said he is hopeful to get both of them more involved moving forward. Miller has had time to rest his shoulder while Williams is getting more and more re-acclimated to the gridiron.

With Allen making his offensive decision, Kamara was given an opportunity to to shine against the Jaguars. He carried the ball 17 times for 62 yards and added another 91 yards through the air on 12 receptions. Williams received just five carries – gaining 14 yards – while Miller didn't record an offensive stat.

Despite Alvin Kamara's output, Dennis Allen would still like to see a bit more out of New Orleans' run game. Heading into Week 8, the Saints rank 22nd in rushing offense, averaging 98.1 yards per game.

The loss against Jacksonville dropped the Saints to 3-4 on the season. As New Orleans looks to stay afloat in the winnable NFC South division, he'll look to add a few more options to the run game.
