As the New Orleans Saints, led by Teddy Bridgewater, head into Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, reports are emerging that 40-year-old franchise quarterback Drew Brees might be back quicker than expected.

After suffering a thumb injury in Week 2, Brees' injury was thought to maybe be severe enough to possibly cost New Orleans a playoff spot as he was expected to be out a minimum of six weeks. Thanks to some useful medical advancements, Brees seems to be on track to return faster than previously thought.

After seeing Brees on the sideline after sustaining the injury not being able to even pick up a football, Saints fans all collectively held their breath. Ed Werder's report seemed to put Brees' return a bit more cautiously, stating that he would return when he is fully healthy.

However, the Saints didn't make Teddy Bridgewater the leagues highest paid backup quarterback for nothing. Knowing Brees is will be closer to age 41 by the time he comes back, signing Bridgewater was an insurance policy in a scenario exactly like the one that occurred.

The Saints hope that when Brees is able to comeback he will return to a team that is still above water and has Alvin Kamara along with Michael Thomas ready to pick up right where they left off. Make no mistake, the Saints will need Brees if they want to make a run similar to the one they made last season where a blown call cost them a Super Bowl chance.

If they are fortunate enough to get back to that spot, Brees will do his best to make sure that the game isn't left up to the refs.
