The New Orleans Saints had optimism entering their Week 2 game against the Los Angeles Rams, but a thumb injury to Drew Brees has caused some to become skeptical on the outlook of the season.

According to Ian Rapoport, Brees successfully underwent thumb surgery and his timetable to return is still set at six weeks.

Early in the game against the Rams, Brees attempted a pass downfield while Aaron Donald was breathing down his neck. As he moved his arm forward, the veteran quarterback had his hand collide with Donald's as the ball traveled inaccurately to his intended target.

Immediately after the play, Brees ran to the sideline and was unable to grip a football. Therefore, Sean Payton was forced to insert Teddy Bridgewater as his replacement for Brees.

When the injury occurred, everyone in New Orleans held their breath as their Super Bowl aspirations began to dwindle. Luckily for them, Brees seems to be on track to return under center, sooner rather than later.

As of this moment, the Saints have no intentions of placing Brees on injured reserve. Instead, they will allow their 40-year-old quarterback to recover from his injury while remains on the active roster.

In his absence, Payton has exclaimed that the team will go into Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks with a “two-quarterback approach.” With that being said, should we expect to see Bridgewater and Taysom Hill receive a share of the snaps in the offense?

Or is Payton just trying to get the Seahawks guessing on defense? Regardless, the offense isn't going to look the same for the next few weeks without Brees efficiently leading the passing attack.
