Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints made some controversial comments on NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. That led to Malcolm Jenkins, who rejoined the Saints this offseason, to share his disappointment in Brees' comments.

After having a conversation with the Saints quarterback, Jenkins shared how the country can learn from his talk with Brees.

The veteran safety made an appearance on The Daily Show on Monday. During his appearance, he spoke about his desire to see Americans having honest conversations:

“I think my interaction with Drew is a microcosm to what we need to do as a country,” Jenkins said, via Nola.com.

Brees' stance on the national anthem was that any player that kneeled during it was disrespecting the flag. As a result, Malcolm Jenkins responded with an emotional message, sharing his disdain for what Brees said.

However, instead of moving on, both Jenkins and Brees listened intently to one another. Since then, Brees has recanted his stance and admitted he's been wrong about the entire situation.

Also, he pointed out that it is important for everyone to educate themselves on racial issues. Malcolm Jenkins would prefer to see more conversations being had that can help white people realize what black people have to endure on a daily basis:

“We try to move to a post-racial type of society and move on from our past without actually addressing the history and the way that our past pretty much paints the present,” Jenkins said. “And until we change the direction that we’re going, until we change the systems that were put in place in the past, we’ll always be tethered to that. And I think that starts with truth.”

It's important for actual change to happen, that everyone understands the root of the problems at hand.

Therefore, everyone could learn from Brees and Jenkins' truthful conversation.
