It is a great day to be a New Orleans Saints rookie, indeed. After rising star rookie running back Alvin Kamara won the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, Saints rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore locked up the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award for a New Orleans rookie sweep.

The NFL officially made the announcement during the NFL Honors at Northrop Memorial Auditorium in Minneapolis on the eve of Super Bowl LII between the defending-champion New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan, who has made the Pro Bowl three times in his career, had no doubts that Lattimore would win the Defensive Rookie of the Year award on Saturday night.

Via an article written by Josh Katzenstein of The-Times Picayune:

“When you talk about Defensive Rookie of the Year, who else would win it if it's not Marshon?” Jordan said in an interview earlier this week.

It's hard to argue what Jordan said here, as Lattimore was the clear frontrunner with his play this season. Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt and Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White were also candidates to win the award. When thrown at this season, the rookie Lattimore gave up zero touchdowns when targeted and was the fifth-ranked cornerback in the 2017-18 season according to Pro Football Focus.

On the season, Marshon Lattimore was an absolute beast after being drafted No. 11 overall by the Saints out of the Ohio State University. In 13 regular season games played, Lattimore made 52 tackles, 18 pass deflections, five interceptions and had one touchdown.
