Michael Thomas and the New Orleans Saints escaped their season-opener against the Houston Texans on Monday night with a game-winning, 58-yard field goal by kicker Will Lutz with 38 seconds remaining. It was a good start for the Saints, coming back from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat a fellow Super Bowl contender, giving them palpable momentum heading into the meat of the regular season.

Thomas was typically stellar on Monday, catching 10 passes for 123 yards, both game-highs. In an indirect matchup with Texans superstar wideout DeAndre Hopkins, the Saints’ leading receiver more than held his own.

A late-game victory and a dominant performance on football’s biggest stage isn’t the only reason why Week 1 undoubtedly left Thomas feeling happy, though. He also relished a longtime foe getting beaten by an NFC counterpart on Sunday, calling out Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman on Twitter after the Philadelphia Eagles’ DeSean Jackson torched him for eight catches, 154 yards, and two scores.

In a since-deleted tweet, per Glenn Erby of Eagles Wire, Thomas wrote, “My home Djac torching Norman,” followed by a laughing emoji.

Thomas has a history with Redskins defensive backs. Last season, after New Orleans beat Washington 43-19, Norman refused to do Thomas the courtesy of even acknowledging his apparently grating on-field antics.

“That guy. Oh my gosh. That guy,” he said of Thomas, per John Keim of ESPN. “To speak on him, I will not waste my breath. I’m sorry. I will not. He’s not worthy of it. He never will be worthy of it.”

The Saints and the Redskins, unfortunately, don’t meetup this season, but that surely won’t stop social media fireworks between Thomas and Norman from continuing to be set off.
