The New Orleans just missed the playoff this season with a 9-8 record. While their defense shined thanks to stars like Cameron Jordan, Marshon Lattimore and Demario Davis, the offense struggled mightily. Alvin Kamara wasn't enough to overcome a rotating room of middling quarterback play. The absence of Michael Thomas proved to be a very tough blow for the Saints.

Thomas' receiving prowess has been immensely important to New Orleans. The two-time All-Pro wideout hasn't played since Week 13 of the 2020 season due to a nagging foot injury. Without him, the Saints placed last in total passing yards in the NFL this season. Although they also threw for the 11th most passing touchdowns and were below average in interceptions, they showed that they desperately need Thomas.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Saints and Thomas are back on the same page. The team wants him back and Thomas has returned to New Orleans after rehabilitating his foot injury in New York. As the team welcomes in new head coach Dennis Allen, they plan to keep Thomas.

The best option in New Orleans' quarterback room right now seems to be Jameis Winston, whose once preposterous affinity for throwing interpretation died down with a smaller workload. The franchise may also acquire a proven veteran QB via trade, make a splash in free agency or draft a young quarterback. Whoever they decide to roll with will have the benefit of throwing to Thomas.

With Kamara's battery arrest in Las Vegas that could result in a six-game suspension, it's good timing for the Saints to get positive news about their other offensive superstar.
