New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton reportedly called the NFL shortly after the NFC title game against the Los Angeles Rams and got confirmation that referees missed a crucial call in the fourth quarter.

The Saints had an opportunity to run out the clock had a pass interference call been awarded, but instead, it resulted in a no-call that would eventually lead to the Rams earning the overtime win to advance to the Super Bowl.

While some may argue that one call doesn't decide a game, there's no doubt that this one was as close as it gets to that point.

Naturally, Payton chose to contact the league immediately after the brutal loss, and it sounds like he got the answer that we all expected he'd get.

Here's what Payton had to say about the situation, courtesy of Kimberley A. Martin of Yahoo Sports:

Getting confirmation from the league is great and all, but it obviously doesn't change the fact that the Rams were able to have another opportunity at the win, and they took advantage of it.

The Saints have had plenty of disappointing postseason losses over the past few years, but it will be hard to top this one given that the blatant missed call that will go down as one of the most controversial in NFL history.
