The New Orleans Saints finished the 2019 season with an impressive 13-3 record and Teddy Bridgewater played a crucial role in achieving that. With the Saints playing on Wild Card weekend, Sean Payton called Bridgewater's resurgence a ‘pivotal point' to the 2019 season.

“It’s a whole different type of year and I just think he was part of that,” Payton said during his Thursday media availability, “and I think that was kind of a pivotal point for our team to figure out, ‘Hey, how can we handle this adversity?’ And not one person was going to just become Drew Brees, but everyone had to pick up the specifics and we had to find a way to win each one of those weeks.”

Back in Week 2, Drew Brees suffered a thumb injury after having his hand collide with Aaron Donald's. When Brees sustained the injury, many believed that the Saints would struggle without their franchise quarterback.

But while Brees was out for five weeks, Bridgewater did a remarkable job to keep New Orleans afloat. The team's backup quarterback delivered with 1,205 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions in his five starts.

Above all, Bridgewater led the Saints to five wins and positioned the Saints for a top seed in the NFC. Despite not getting a first-round bye, New Orleans wouldn't have been 13-3 without Bridgewater.

The 27-year-old quarterback put together a few impressive performances for teams to see as he is an impending free agent in 2020. Even though there is the chance that Saints choose to keep Bridgewater for a third consecutive season.

Last offseason, the Saints re-signed Bridgewater to a one-year, $7.25 million contract to remain in New Orleans. It goes without saying that retaining Bridgewater was one of the best decisions the Saints made in 2019.
