Amid the chaos of the NFL draft, two notable wide receivers were in the headlines after asking for a trade. AJ Brown got his wish and was traded to the Cardinals, while Deebo Samuel has already asked out of San Francisco. These developments have led Seattle Seahawks fans to wonder what could happen to their own wide receiver, DK Metcalf.

DK Metcalf is due for a contract extension this year with the Seahawks. However, there have been rumors on whether the wide-out will sign an extension or ask to be traded. After the draft, head coach Pete Carroll stressed that they’ll be doing everything they can to keep Metcalf with the team. (via Brady Henderson)

“Hopefully this will all work out. We don’t plan on him going anywhere else. We want him to be with us.”

The Seahawks notably traded their franchise quarterback in Russell Wilson to the Broncos earlier this year. That move signaled the start of a rebuild for this team, one that some people will argue is long overdue. Many people theorized that Metcalf, who is still in his physical prime, would want to go to a more “competitive” team.

Metcalf himself hasn’t shown any indications that he wanted to leave town. In fact, he came to the defense of his new Seahawks quarterback Drew Lock at one point. However, it’s also possible that Carroll and the front office decides that Metcalf doesn’t fit their new timeline, and trade him for assets. We’ll see how this situation plays out in the next few days.
