Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is closing in on a franchise legend, but he's thinking even bigger.

Megatron big.

Entering Week 17, Metcalf is approaching Steve Largent's Seahawks single-season receiving record. With 1,282 yards, the second-year wideout trails Largent's mark by five yards. Largent racked up a career-high 79 receptions, six touchdowns, and a league-leading 1,287 yards in 1985.

“Just to break a record that’s been standing for so long, you know, it’s just a blessing just to be in this position,” Metcalf said on Thursday, via Curtis Crabtree in Pro Football Talk. “And an amazing opportunity I have in front of me.”

Largent is an all-time great whose record has stood for 35 years, but Metcalf is eyeing the NFL's all-time single-season record of 1,964, set by Calvin Johnson with the Detroit Lions in 2012.

“I kind of looked up the record last year and saw how far it was until the end of the season so I knew it was going to be on the agenda this year to break it,” Metcalf said. “I got to start small, start with Largent’s record and then hopefully move on up to Calvin [Johnson]’s record.”

Metcalf will go for the Seahawks franchise mark against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

“Everybody talks about how great of a receiver he was, and he never dropped anything,” Metcalf said about Largent, via Adam Jude of the Seattle Times. “He’s the GOAT receiver in Seattle, so I’m just trying to be like him.”

The Hall of Famer made seven Pro Bowls over 14 seasons (1976-89) in Seattle—a Seahawks lifer.

Metcalf, 23, has 80 receptions and 10 touchdowns this season.
