Running back J.D. McKissic is the latest to get hurt in the Seattle Seahawks’ backfield. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 25-year-old Arkansas State product will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks after sustaining a fracture in his foot.

McKissic’s injury came just when the Seahawks got a huge sigh of relief after seeing rookie running back Rashaad Penny return to practice. Penny is unlikely to appear in any more preseason games this year, but the expectation is that he’ll be ready to make his NFL regular season debut in Week 1.

With McKissic, Seattle is left with a slim backfield that currently only has Chris Carson, C.J. Prosise, and Mike Davis as its healthy options at the running back position. They also have Justin Stockton and Gerald Holmes, but they’re so far down on the team’s depth chart that it’s highly unlikely for either to make the final 53-man roster. That being said, McKissic’s injury offers them a glimmer of hope that they’ll stay with the team until at least the first few weeks of the regular season.

J.D. McKissic, who was claimed off waivers by Seattle in December of 2016, appeared in 13 games last season and rushed for 189 yards and a touchdown on 47 touches. He also played a role in the passing game, turning 34 catches into 266 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was also played 106 snaps as part of the special teams last season.
