The Seattle Seahawks have been dealing with injuries to a couple of key offensive talents that include rookie running back Rashaad Penny suffering a broken finger that he has already undergone surgery to repair that will keep him out of the mix for the next couple of weeks.

According to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, Penny was seen back on the practice field on Friday just a couple of days after going through an operation on his finger.

Although Penny won't be participating in practice, it is a positive sign that he is at least around the team in some capacity. The Seahawks will likely keep him out of drills for the next several days, but he should be on track to be back at some point early in the 2018 season with the possibility of it being the season opener. All of this depends on the rate of his recovery from the injury that has a current timetable of three to four weeks.

Seattle hasn't pinpointed him as being the starter just yet, but he is in the running to vie for that starting job as he's in competition with Chris Carson and Mike Davis for that spot. This time away from the field will put that push on a pause as he will likely take a secondary role in the running game to start the season.

Penny is coming off an impressive 2017 season at San Diego State where he finished fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy after leading the nation with 2,248 rushing yards along with 23 touchdowns that also helped him secure a First-Team All-American and All-Mountain West honors.

The Seahawks are hoping that could translate to him being a major factor in their running game that ranked 23rd in the league this past season that saw quarterback Russell Wilson lead the charge while responsible for recording three of their four rushing touchdowns.
