There could be a lot that Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll didn’t like about the way his team played in Week 1’s 17-9 road loss to the Green Bay Packers, and among those is the play of Seattle’s offensive line.

According to Greg Bell of The News Tribune, Carroll was none too pleased with how the Seahawks blocked for their runners and protected quarterback Russell Wilson.

“I am disappointed in that,” the Seahawks’ coach said. “I am disappointed we are talking about that today. I thought we were moving in the right direction. I’ve seen us move in the right direction.”

Carroll, however, credited the Packers’ defense, even singling out Green Bay defensive tackle Mike Daniels for wreaking havoc on the trenches.

“Right out of the chutes, we just missed a couple opportunities to do things and made a couple mistakes, really the errors that we had,” Carroll said. “Then also, I give it to (Mike) Daniels, he played a heck of a football game. He gave us some problems and we didn’t deal with him as well as we thought we would.”

Seattle entered this season after a year in which the Seahawks’ offensive line allowed the sixth most sacks in the league, and just 25th in rushing yards per contest, mainly due to their weak offensive line. Barely any improvement was visible against Green Bay where Seattle gave up three sacks, while the backfield produced just 90 rushing yards.

Seattle’s offense was almost crippled in Green Bay because of that with the team mustering just 225 total yards – the fewest by the franchise over the last three years.

Despite all that, Carroll remains optimistic of the unit.

“Going forward, I think we’ll show you what we can do. (Green Bay) was not our best.

“It sucks…but we’ll move forward. Long season. A lot more opportunities to go out there.”
