The Seattle Seahawks are starting life without Russell Wilson, and it’s been a bumpy ride so far. Currently, their quarterback room consists of Drew Lock and Geno Smith. It stands to reason, then, that they’ve been involved in many QB rumors over the offseason, including one disgruntled Browns star.

However, it seems like the Seahawks aren’t looking at Baker Mayfield as an option… or any veteran quarterback, for that matter. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Pete Carroll addressed these rumors. The Super Bowl winning coach said that the team might not be making a trade anytime soon. (via Brady Henderson)

“I don’t see us making a trade for anybody at all. I don’t see that happening.”

The two hottest names in the quarterback market so far are Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo. Both players have injury woes, but they are also proven commodities for a position that values stability. The Mayfield-to-Seahawks rumors made a lot of sense because of this: Mayfield could help them win games if he’s healthy, but he can also be a transitional quarterback should they find a young prospect.

However, the draft went by without the Seahawks, or any team, acquiring Mayfield. In fact, Carroll and the front office didn’t draft a quarterback with their nine selections. That could mean one of two things: either the team is content with Lock and Smith for now… or this is just a smokescreen. Perhaps Carroll is just trying to gain extra leverage in his efforts to acquire Mayfield.
