Through the first few months of the offseason, there has been the constant dialogue around the long-term future of All-Pro safety Earl Thomas with the Seattle Seahawks.

During a recent interview with NFL Network, his former teammate Richard Sherman spoke glowingly of his former teammate stating that he believes he should get a new lucrative contract.

“I think Earl Thomas deserves the money he's asking for,” Sherman told NFL Network's Michael Robinson during Robinson's youth football camp in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday. “I think he deserves to be compensated as the top safety in the league. Whether Seattle does that or not is up to them.”

Thomas is in the final year of his four-year, $40 million deal that has him set on hitting the free agent market next offseason. Despite nagging injuries, Thomas is still producing at an elite level where he recorded 88 total tackles with a pair of interceptions, a forced fumble, and seven pass deflection.

Through his first eight years in the league, Thomas had developed the reputation as being one of the premier safeties in the NFL with six Pro Bowl selections, three First-Team All-Pro nods, and two Second-Team All-Pro selections.

What has been troubling about this situation in Seattle is that the team has yet to open up any serious discussion toward working out a new extension with the 29-year-old. The Seahawks have made a major transition to their defense moving several notable cornerstone players that included Sherman being let go after eight seasons.

With the lack of movement on this front, it should see Thomas stay in the fold at least through the start of the 2018 campaign, but things could pick up if the Seahawks struggle. For the time being, it's clear that he will be in line for another lucrative contract at some point in time.
