The Seattle Seahawks are looking to bolster their pass-rushing unit this offseason and they are poaching someone from within the NFC West. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks have signed Kerry Hyder to a three-year, $16.5 million deal on Tuesday.

The entire contract for Hyder could reach $17.5 million with incentives that are likely connected to his playing time and production on the field. Hyder has bounced around with a few teams in the NFL since entering the league in 2014, but he was able to find a place to thrive during his one-year stay with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020.

During the 2020 campaign, Hyder had a career year as he logged a career-high 8.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 18 quarterback hits, and 49 combined tackles. With injuries to Dee Ford and Nick Bosa, Hyder was forced into a starting role early in the season for the 49ers, which allowed him to earn a nice pay raise this offseason.

In recent seasons, the Seahawks have struggled to create pressure off of the edge as Jamal Adams led the team with 9.5 sacks in 2020. While the move to acquire Carlos Dunlap panned out for the second half of the 2020 season, Seattle released Dunlap this offseason.

Besides Hyder, the Seahawks also lured Ahkello Witherspoon from the 49ers in free agency after signing the former third-round pick out of Colorado to a one-year, $4 million deal earlier this month. Even though Seattle's defense still has plenty of room for improvement, they are hoping that Hyder can give them a reliable pass rusher off of the edge in 2021 and beyond.
