The Seattle Seahawks are taking a look at potential veterans additions on both sides of the ball. Yesterday, they met with former Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing as a possible addition to their ever-changing defense. And now, they are hosting former Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart.

Per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network:

Here's an interesting one: Former Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart is visiting the Seahawks today, source says. Seattle is looking at all options to get that ground game going.

Stewart, 30, was recently cut by the Panthers this offseason following 10 years with the team. He saw his role in the offense slightly reduced last season due to the presence of rookie Christian McCaffrey. He finished with 680 rushing yards and six touchdowns and has shown some signs of slowing down. His 3.4 yards per carry was a new career-low.

The Seahawks have not had much stability or effectiveness in the running game since the departure of Marshawn Lynch. Last season, they shuffled through the likes of Mike Davis, Chris Carson, J.D. McKissic, Eddie Lacy, and Thomas Rawls, with no one able to make the position his own.

Quarterback Russell Wilson ended up as the team’s leading rusher with 586 yards, more than double the total of the closest running back (Davis, 240 yards). Wilson also had three rushing touchdowns while McKissic scored the team’s only other rushing score. Despite Stewart’s advancing age, his possible addition could give the Seahawks a more reliable option at the position, at least compared to the ones they currently have at their disposal.
