The hours leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft have been filled with rumors, whether they are true or false remain to be seen. Regardless of the validity of the report, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars have had discussions with the Detroit Lions pertaining to the No. 3 pick.

Again, some rumors ahead of the draft are to be taken with a grain of salt due to teams trying to send smokescreens. But with the reports of the Jaguars possibly moving up to the No. 3 pick, some people have considered the idea of them possibly targeting Tua Tagovailoa.

Earlier this offseason, the Jaguars traded Nick Foles to the Chicago Bears. Thus, allowing Gardner Minshew to seemingly assume the role as the starting quarterback next season.

Following the trade of Foles, head coach Doug Marrone expressed his confidence in Minshew as the starter. However, that could be subject to change if Jacksonville is fond of Tagovailoa.

For months, it has been expected that the Miami Dolphins will strike a deal with the Lions for the No. 3 pick with the intention of selecting Tagovailoa. But with Tagovailoa's medical concerns, it has made projecting where he will go in the first round a bit tougher.

Even with Minshew on the roster, Jacksonville could shock the world and move up to take the left-handed quarterback. With that in mind, should the Jaguars trade up to select Tagovailoa in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft?

Why the Jaguars shouldn't trade up for Tagovailoa

Heading into the first round of the draft on Thursday, the Jaguars possess the No. 9 and No. 20 picks respectively. Therefore, that gives them a chance to add two players that could help them expedite the process of their current rebuild.

After trading A.J. Bouye and Calais Campbell, along with the inevitable trade involving Yannick Ngakoue, Jacksonville is undergoing a complete overhaul on defense. Provided that, it is vital for the Jaguars to address the holes on their defense in this year's draft.

Of course, the quarterback position is the most important position for any team in the NFL. However, it's not like Minshew didn't flash some potential as a starter in his rookie season. Rather than surrender some of their future picks to move up to take Tagovailoa, the Jaguars could give Minshew a chance to prove himself again in 2020.

Without a doubt, Tagovailoa is a talented quarterback that has the potential to become a remarkable quarterback in the NFL. But with his injury concerns, do the Jaguars want to mortgage part of their future to be able to select him early in the draft?

While making sure they are set at quarterback is vital to their future success, Jacksonville has quite a few needs that are more prevalent than quarterback.

Even though some fans of the Jaguars would possibly be on board with the idea, trading up to select Tagovailoa wouldn't make much sense for them at this time.
