Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid raised a lot of eyebrows when he mentioned being “the best player in the world” after the Sixers' convincing win over the Brooklyn Nets last Thursday.

The seven-foot Cameroonian slotman was once again asked about his comments on Monday following the Sixers' 129-112 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at Wells Fargo Center. Embiid made it clear that his words were simply “taken out of context” and blown out of proportion by the media.

Joel Embiid most recent proclamation will certainly rub a lot of people the wrong way. Reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo recently chimed in on JoJo's comments.

Moreover, Sixers head coach Brett Brown said he has no problem with it, as long as it motivates the 25-year-old All-Star.

The 25-year-old big man has certainly been walking the talk since his bold proclamation. After recording 39 points and 16 rebounds against the Nets, Embiid notched a career-high 49 points to go along with 14 boards against the Hawks.

He shot 71 percent from the field (17-of-24 FG) and also went 14-of-15 from the foul line. Embiid also scattered three assists, three steals, and one block in just 36 minutes.

Possessing a diverse skillset rarely seen in bigs these days, most pundits see Embiid as the second coming of one the greatest centers of all-time in Hakeem Olajuwon. The Sixers big is now a three-time All-Star, a two-time All-NBA Second Team member and two-time NBA All-Defensive Second Team member.

JoJo has also kept himself healthy so far in the early part of the season. In 42 games, Embiid is averaging 23.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.4 blocks.

The Sixers are currently in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings holding a 36-22 record.
