Over the past few seasons, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has cemented himself among the upper echelon of NBA superstars. It took some time for him to get to this point, but there is no denying Embiid is a top-10 player in the league right now.

With each passing year, the All-Star big man continues to add new layers to his game. Arguably his biggest jump took place last season, when he posted the most efficient shooting splits of his career. His 51.3% shooting from the field, 37.7% from 3, and 85.9% from the line were all career highs for the 27-year-old.

Embiid is far from the ordinary center we are accustomed to seeing. Not only can he punish teams around the rim, but on the perimeter as well. Whether it's his face-up game in the mid-range or letting it fly from beyond the arc, Embiid needs to be accounted for everywhere on the floor.

Between the Sixers being at the top of the Eastern Conference and Embiid playing the best basketball of his career, MVP was in his grasp. In the end, he finished second in voting behind Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic. If not for games missed, many agree the Sixers' franchise cornerstone would have walked away with the hardware.

Primarily due to missing time, Embiid has not gotten much MVP buzz this season. But after the dominant stretch he is putting together, that all should change.

It goes without saying why the Sixers need Embiid now more than ever (*cough* Ben Simmons *cough*), and in true superstar fashion, he has stepped up to the occasion. Since reentering the lineup after going through health and safety protocols, Embiid has been nearly unstoppable.

Over his last 11 games, Embiid is posting averages of 30.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. This stretch includes six performances of at least 32 points and two 40-point barrages. Not only is Embiid putting up monster numbers, but also coming up big in crucial moments as well. There have been numerous occasions where he is given the ball down the stretch and hit clutch shots to seal a victory.

In total, Embiid is currently averaging 25.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists (career-high mark). These numbers are not far off from last season, which should keep him near the MVP talk. There is no denying he started the year off slow, but after this string of performances, Embiid should be creeping back up the ladder.

If he truly wants to enter the conversation, the Sixers need to climb back up the standings. As of now, they are a middle-of-the-pack team in the Eastern Conference. For Embiid's case to gain real traction, they need to keep stringing wins together.

Multiple superstars are putting together strong campaigns this season, so moving up the MVP ladder will not be easy. That being said, with the way Embiid has played in recent weeks, his case grows stronger by the day.
