San Antonio Spurs forward Davis Bertans was spectacular in last night's come-from-behind 107-100 win over the Sacramento Kings. In 31 minutes off the bench, Bertans scored a career-high 28 points, including six 3-pointers, also a career-high. His efficiency stood out from the performance, as Bertans shot 11-for-15 from the field. The Latvian added three assists and two blocks. The Spurs were down by 14 at one point during the game. With Kawhi Leonard still in the injury report with a day-to-day shoulder injury and Rudy Gay out with retrocalcaneal bursitis in his right heel, Bertans and Kyle Anderson were expected to get a notable increase in playing time.

Bertans, a 25-year old, 6-feet-10 forward, is in his second season with the San Antonio Spurs. He was selected with the 42nd overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. The Latvian was one of the players involved in the infamous trade that sent him, Kawhi Leonard, and Erazem Lorbek to the Spurs and George Hill to the Pacers the same night he was drafted. He signed a two-year contract with the Spurs during the summer of 2016 and was assigned to and recalled from the G-League's Austin Spurs a couple of times during the 2016-17 season.

During his first year, Bertans averaged 4.5 points and 1.5 rebounds, with 44 percent shooting from the field and 39.9 percent from behind the 3-point line in 12.1 minutes per game in 67 appearances. This season his playing time has been the same but his stats are looking better: 5.4 points and 1.9 rebounds, with 46.8 percent shooting from the field and 40.5 percent from the 3-point arc.

Now that he has more time to put his skill set into public notice, Bertans hopes he can keep contributing while his teammates recover.
