San Antonio Spurs head coach and future Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich set an NBA record Saturday night following the Spurs' road win against the New Orleans Pelicans on the road.

Congratulations, Pop!

While a lot of people are talking about the imminent retirement of some players, most of them tend to forget that Popovich, a five-time champion coach, has also indicated that this could potentially be his last season calling the shots for the franchise.

And the Spurs are doing everything they can to make this count.

Both teams came into this game plagued by injuries. The Spurs were without DeMar DeRozan and Davis Bertans, while the Pelicans had no Anthony Davis, Julius Randle, and Nikola Mirotic.

The Pels' lack of bigs made things easy for Spurs center LaMarcus Aldridge, who scored 28 points and grabbed 12 boards in the win. Rudy Gay stepped up in DeRozan's absence, scoring 22 markers, including 11 in the third period, and nabbing 11 rebounds.

The Pelicans tried to keep up with the help of Jrue Holiday, who had 29 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Jahlil Okafor did his part in trying to fill the void left by the injured big men of the Pels. He finished with 24 points and also had 15 rebounds.

The game was actually close in the first half before the Spurs used a 25-12 third-quarter run to break the game open. From there, the Pelicans were already unable to recover.

Even without a superstar in the team, Popovich continues to lead the Spurs to impressive victories. They are currently sixth in the Western Conference with a 28-20 record.
