Team USA managing director Jerry Colangelo is a big fan of San Antonio Spurs guard Derrick White.

White is on the USA Select Team and has been turning heads left and right at Team USA training camp in Las Vegas.

“I think White has been very, very good,” Colangelo said, via Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. “What a story that is. You talk about his journey. He is a very unique player. He’s got a gait to him. He’s got interesting floaters in the lane. He’s sly. A good passer, impressive.”

Last season for the Spurs, Derrick White averaged 9.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from beyond the arc and 77.2 percent from the free-throw line.

During the 2019 playoffs, where the Spurs lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first-round in seven games, White took his game to another level and showed he's going to be an elite two-way player in the NBA very soon. The 25-year-old, who was the 29th overall pick in the 2017 draft, put up 15.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists.

White scored an impressive 36 points in Game 3 against the Nuggets while shooting an incredible 15-of-21 from the floor. The Spurs can't wait to see their young backcourt of White and Dejounte Murray take the floor together next season.

Thanks to this USA experience, White is going to be a more polished player moving forward. That's great news for the Spurs, who are looking for a new franchise player.
