The Dallas Stars are one of the most recent teams to enter the 2022 NHL Offseason. They fell to the Calgary Flames in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs, battling through the seven-game series. The Flames are now competing against the Edmonton Oilers to advance further in the postseason tournament.

During the Stars' time in the offseason, they'll have to look for a new head coach. Rick Bowness decided to step down from the position. The Stars tweeted his official announcement Friday afternoon.

“After careful consideration with my wife Judy, we feel it's best to step away and allow the organization the opportunity to pursue a different direction at the head coaching position. I'd like to thank all the passionate fans and the dedicated staff for their support and hard work in my time here. It has been an honor for me, and my family, to represent the Stars and the city of Dallas.”

Bowness began his career with the Stars in June of 2018 as the assistant head coach under Jim Montgomery. He became the interim head coach in December of 2019 after Montgomery was fired. Bowness became the official head coach in October of 2020. Under his leadership, the Stars went on two playoff runs, including a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2020.

Before his coaching career in Dallas, Bowness coached for five other franchises: the Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, and Phoenix Coyotes.
