The Pittsburgh Steelers have embarked on a new era in franchise history, as they are slated to call upon either Mitchell Trubisky or Kenny Pickett to replace Ben Roethlisberger as their new starting quarterback for the upcoming season.

Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward had a front-row seat to watch Trubisky throw the football and anchor passing drills during the team’s OTAs and mandatory minicamp. With what he has seen so far from Trubisky, there is one stark comparison between the former Chicago Bears passer and Roethlisberger.

“Mitch is a very different player than we've had, he is very mobile,” Heyward said on the NFL Network’s ‘NFL Total Access' program. “He is able to move around the pocket. … Mitch can get on the run and complete intermediate passes and he’s going to be really good in the RPO game as well.”

As Heyward touched on, Trubisky has been well known for being a passer who can scramble out of the pocket and complete keen passes.

On the other hand, Trubisky did have a bit of experience in running RPO plays over his four-season run with the Bears, although this was not necessarily a staple of the team’s offense. For one, he anchored 31 total RPO plays during the 2020 campaign with the Bears, which ranked at 19th among all quarterbacks.

Trubisky will next get a chance to continue to build chemistry with Pittsburgh's wide receiver corps at the start of training camp later this month.
