Ryan Shazier will officially not play in 2019. The Pittsburgh Steelers placed the linebacker on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List on Monday, ending his season, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

As Rapoport points out, the team will still pay him around $500K this season. The Steelers have been very classy in their handling of the matter, keeping him on the roster and around the team. Shazier, of course, suffered a devastating spine injury toward the end of the 2017 season.

There was an initial fear of paralysis, but that turned out not to be true. Shazier was still seriously hurt though, and it took him a long time to be able to walk again. He's documented his recovery on social media, and it's inspiring stuff. There was an initial fear he would never be able to walk again, and he's now progressed to running. He recently shared a video online of himself doing a box jump.

Ever since the injury, Shazier has insisted he wants to make it back on the field to play.

This will be his second consecutive season on the sidelines, but Shazier isn't giving up hope. He was a great player, a Pro Bowler each of his last two seasons, and his absence has been sorely felt on the field.

The Steelers drafted the player who looks to be his replacement at inside linebacker when they moved up to draft Devin Bush tenth overall last week. After being drafted, Bush paid tribute to Shazier. Of course, the most important thing is Shazier's health and recovery.

We wish him nothing but the best as he continues his remarkable journey.
