The Seattle Storm take on the Phoenix Mercury. Our WNBA odds series has our Storm Mercury prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Storm Mercury.

The Seattle Storm have established themselves as one of the top four teams in the WNBA. They are fourth-best, because the New York Liberty, Connecticut Sun, and Minnesota Lynx have all set a higher standard, but the Storm are — right now — a better team than the Las Vegas Aces. They won decisively in Vegas not that long ago. They struggled early in the season, and they are 0-3 against the aforementioned Lynx, but they have made very few stumbles against the rest of the league. This team has shown it can get the job done at both ends of the floor. The Storm beat the Dallas Wings 92-84 for their most recent win. The victory over the Aces was a 78-65 game. Seattle can win in the 80s or the 70s. It can win by scoring in the low 90s or holding an opponent in the mid-60s. This team doesn't look or feel like a one-trick pony with limited options and no Plan B. Anything but. The Storm have balance, experience, and toughness on their roster. They are a legitimate contender for the WNBA semifinals and will try to show in the next few months that they're worthy of that assessment.

The Phoenix Mercury are one of the hardest teams to pin down in the WNBA. They have beaten the Aces and the Lynx. They have lost to the Dallas Wings by 15. They barely beat the two-win Washington Mystics at home. They have played some thrillers and have been blown out on several occasions. It's true that some of Phoenix's worst games came without Brittney Griner, but that's not the full explantion for the volatility of this team. With Griner on the court on Thursday night, the Mercury got a 16-point lead over the Aces but then gave up the lead very quickly and lost a shootout, 103-99. They allowed only 12 points in the first quarter but 42 in the second. The Mercury have had that Jekyll and Hyde identity for portions of their season. The Merc are trying to find stability, not just quality.

Why The Storm Could Cover The Spread

The Storm haven't figured out how to play the Minnesota Lynx. As noted above, they're 0-3 against the Lynx. Against other teams, they have very rarely lost so far this season. The Storm beat the Mercury by 18 in Seattle. The Storm could win this game by 15 fewer points and still cover the spread. Seattle allowed just 62 points to Phoenix in that meeting, so the Storm have to feel confident that they can contain Phoenix in halfcourt situations.

Why The Mercury Could Cover The Spread

The Mercury are going to be intent on improving their defense after Vegas lit them up for 103 points, 42 of them in one quarter, last week. Phoenix allowed the Aces to go 9 of 9 on 3-point shots in that disastrous second quarter. If Phoenix can improve its perimeter defense, the Mercury have an excellent chance of covering the spread.

Final Storm-Mercury Prediction & Pick

Phoenix is at home and motivated. Seattle is the better team. Our recommendation is to pass on this one and wait for a live play.

Final Storm-Mercury Prediction & Pick: Mercury +2.5
